My best friend, Ann Marie Wilding, and I began writing our little play in the summer of 2012 in my mother's living room. From taking breaks to run around the room in circles as we wrote, to dog-earing page after page in Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, we gave life to Lilies from Iron. And thus, took a chance on it by submitting it to The Bechdel Test Festival 2.0 held by The Bridge Initiative Women in Theatre. To our astonishment and glee Lilies From Iron won Best Arizona Short Play and will receive a fully produced staged reading. Receiving the honor of getting to listen to words you co-wrote with someone you grew up with and love very much is like a dream come true but sort of makes us want to vomit from nerves at the same time. BUT HERE WE GO!!! Ahhhh!!!
Okay. The festival will run April 26th-28th with our play receiving its official staged reading on April 27th at 4:00 pm. The weekend will feature plays and short films written by women from all over the country that pass the Bechdel Test. We are absolutely THRILLED to be among and support like-minded artists and cannot wait to see their work and share ours!
